Fatigue. The lack of energy. Why suffer?
Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially. One person’s experience of life is chained to a multitude of eternal pillars, to which they return to at different stages of their journey. It is a cycle that ends only when our biology decides so.
Why suffer alone?
Is productivity and independence worth all of that? What makes freedom so great when there is no one around to witness it?
Words. Words. Words.
Why know words when there is no one to listen? A wall is good, but it will never understand. To be understood; that’s all we really want.
Why suffer together?
It could be that the transformations that take place when two people are placed next to each other for an extended period of time is the point of this tiring thing called Life.
Definitions change, priorities change, responsibilities become burdens, children become adults. What was once fun eventually becomes frustrating. So we keep our distance.
Distant. Distant.
This turn seems to be either the boiling or the freezing point. If it boils, you leave. If it freezes, you stay. In both cases, a choice is made between one life or the other. Either you suffer alone or you suffer together. But isn’t that the whole game? Isn’t that the purpose of having a mind wealthy with time? Quelle joie d’être en vie !
And then fantasy punches you in the face. Are you forgetting something? Unlike lovers, desires stay. They stick to our brains like lice in honey. Suppress them all you want, they’ll only dig their claws deeper into your nervous system. Like regret.
Why suffer at all?
You could just call it a day and clock out, leaving your ambitious dreams at the door as you walk out. You could lie on your couch and consume the suffering of others, protecting yourself from any sort of pain. That could be your life: safe, sound, secure.
Free.
Of course, this would only make sense if you had a choice; the ultimate privilege.
To choose what to focus on — what to eat, what to wear, what to read, what to watch, where to go, where to live, where to brunch, where to sleep, where to shop, when to move, when to fly, when to dine, when to travel, when to buy, how to study, how to work, how to retire, how to die, how to love, who to like, who to look at, who to date, who to marry, who to sleep with — is our job.
Fresh. You are full of life. Do you have a choice?
